The Italian Grand Tour

A five-day, four-night Grand Tour aboard La Dolce Vita Orient Express, from Venice to Sicily and back to Rome, through ancient cities, sunlit coasts and Italy’s most evocative landscapes, wrapped in gastronomy, design and slow travel.

Day 1: Rome to Venice, the beginning of the Grand Tour

Day 1: Rome to Venice, the beginning of the Grand Tour

The journey begins in Rome, where a private transfer takes you from your hotel or the airport to the La Dolce Vita Orient Express Lounge at Rome Ostiense. Designed as a calm and elegant prelude to the journey, the lounge allows you to slow down, check in comfortably and step into the world of La Dolce Vita.

At 10:30 AM, the train departs Rome, and you settle into your private cabin as the Italian countryside unfolds outside your window. Lunch is served on board in the restaurant car, marking the first culinary moment of the Grand Tour, accompanied by refined service and a relaxed rhythm.

By early evening, the train arrives in Venice. A private water taxi awaits to escort you directly into the heart of the city, where canals, palaces and narrow alleyways reveal a timeless beauty. The evening is yours to explore freely or through curated experiences, before returning to the train later that night.

As the journey continues southward, the Bar Car comes alive with live music and entertainment, setting the tone for your first night aboard La Dolce Vita Orient Express.

Day 2: Venice, Bari and Matera, from floating city to ancient stone

Day 2: Venice, Bari and Matera, from floating city to ancient stone

Wake to a new landscape as the train glides along the Adriatic coast. Breakfast is served at your leisure, either in your cabin or in the restaurant car, while the scenery slowly changes.

In the morning, the train arrives in Bari, where a private transfer takes you inland to Matera, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Known for its extraordinary Sassi districts, Matera offers a unique atmosphere of stone dwellings, winding paths and sunlit courtyards carved directly into the rock.

Spend the afternoon exploring at your own pace or choose from a selection of curated experiences designed to reveal the city’s history, culture and quiet magic. In the late afternoon, you return to the train as it continues its journey toward southern Italy.

On board, dinner is served in the restaurant car, inspired by the flavors of southern Italy, followed by live music in the Bar Car, creating a relaxed and elegant atmosphere for your second evening on board.

Day 3: Taormina and the crossing to Sicily, between sea and volcano

Day 3: Taormina and the crossing to Sicily, between sea and volcano

The third day unfolds with dramatic scenery as the train travels through the southern tip of the Italian mainland. Enjoy breakfast on board as coastal cliffs, olive groves and glimpses of turquoise sea appear beyond the window.

One of the most iconic moments of the Grand Tour takes place during the crossing of the Strait of Messina. In a rare and unforgettable spectacle, the train is carefully transferred onto a ferry, offering sweeping Mediterranean views suspended between sea and sky. This pause in motion becomes one of the defining moments of the journey.

Back on Sicilian tracks, lunch is served on board before arriving in Taormina. Perched high above the Ionian Sea with Mount Etna rising in the distance, Taormina offers breathtaking panoramas and a setting that feels both natural and theatrical.

Local assistants escort you into the city, where the afternoon is yours to explore freely or through curated experiences. Later, you return to the train for dinner on board, inspired by Sicilian ingredients and traditions, followed by live music in the Bar Car.

Day 4: Palermo, the vibrant heart of Sicily

Day 4: Palermo, the vibrant heart of Sicily

Awake to breakfast on board as the train approaches Palermo, Sicily’s vibrant and layered capital. Upon arrival, you are escorted into the heart of the city, where Arab Norman architecture, historic churches and lively markets coexist in constant movement.

The day is dedicated to discovering Palermo at your own rhythm, whether by wandering through historic quarters, tasting local flavors or selecting curated experiences that bring the city’s cultural richness to life.

By mid afternoon, you return to the train for departure. As the journey continues, the train once again crosses the Strait of Messina at sunset, offering another opportunity to admire the golden Mediterranean light from the ferry.

Dinner is served on board, blending Sicilian and mainland influences, and the final evening unfolds in the Bar Car with live music, creating a memorable close to your Grand Tour experience.

Day 5: Return to Rome, the circle completed

Day 5: Return to Rome, the circle completed

On your final morning, enjoy a relaxed breakfast served in your cabin or in the restaurant car as the train makes its way back to Rome. It is a moment to reflect on the journey, the cities explored, the landscapes crossed and the rare experience of discovering Italy by luxury train.

At 10:30 AM, the train arrives at Rome Ostiense, completing the Grand Tour. From here, you may return home or continue your travels, with Teovian ready to design pre or post journey stays, private transfers, hotels and bespoke experiences to extend your Italian adventure seamlessly.

Orient Express "La Dolce Vita"

The art of Italian living

Welcome to La Dolce Vita Orient Express: the luxury train in Italy where time stands still

Welcome to La Dolce Vita Orient Express: the luxury train in Italy where time stands still

La Dolce Vita Orient Express is not just a train: it is a small world suspended on rails, where Italy is experienced at a different rhythm. From the very first moment, everything becomes slower, more beautiful, more sensory. Light filters softly, the landscape changes like a film, and you stop “going to a destination” and begin to enjoy the journey as the true masterpiece.

Here, every detail is curated, not improvised. You travel with elegance, with calm, with the feeling of entering a golden age reinterpreted for today: chic, contemporary and deeply Italian. This is La Dolce Vita: an art of travel that is felt, tasted and remembered.

Life on board

La Dolce Vita Orient Express is designed as a living experience, with scenes that change throughout the day. In the morning, the train feels bright and tranquil: espresso, soft conversation, landscapes passing like a fresco. In the afternoon, the rhythm becomes more social, and aperitivo appears as an inevitable ritual.

Then night arrives. The atmosphere transforms. Announced as a special moment, the “Great Transformation” changes the mood: the lights dim, the décor evolves, the music takes on a different tone and the train becomes more intimate, more elegant, more cinematic. It is not entertainment: it is a sensation.

A journey that becomes a story, and a night that becomes a memory.

The history of La Dolce Vita Orient Express: the new icon of Italian luxury with a designer signature

The history of La Dolce Vita Orient Express: the new icon of Italian luxury with a designer signature

La Dolce Vita Orient Express was born from a clear vision: to create the great Italian luxury train of the new generation, a contemporary icon capable of honouring history without copying it. Its design was conceived by Dimorestudio, the studio founded by Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran, inspired by the great masters of twentieth-century Italian design.

The result is a carefully balanced aesthetic: detailed luxury yet never ostentatious, with the feeling that this train has always existed. A world of textures, light, geometry, noble materials and Italian soul. More than a travel experience, it is a signature of style: Orient Express reinterpreted through the language of design, elegance and the pleasure of living.

What does La Dolce Vita Orient Express include? A complete ritual of travel, service and experience

-Attentive and personalised service on board, where every detail adapts to your way of travelling.

-Accommodation in your cabin or suite, with nightly transformation and high-level comfort.

-Italian gastronomy and emblematic travel rituals (breakfast, aperitivo, dinner), according to the itinerary.

Exact services may vary depending on route and date. Your Teovian quotation will clearly detail everything that is included.

Gastronomy on board: Italian culinary art at its highest expression

Gastronomy on board: Italian culinary art at its highest expression

On La Dolce Vita Orient Express, gastronomy does not accompany the journey: it defines it. Every meal is a celebration of Italian savoir-faire, from the first espresso of the morning to the last toast of the night.

Under the direction of three-Michelin-star chef Heinz Beck, the train’s culinary programme pays tribute to the richness of Italian cuisine, blending haute-cuisine technique with local ingredients, regional recipes and a contemporary sensibility. Each menu is designed as a journey across the country, where flavours change in rhythm with the landscape gliding past the window.

A journey through Italy by way of taste

From the artisanal Italian breakfast to late-night snacks, every dish tells a story. Freshly pressed juices, Sicilian brioche, artisanal jams, aromatic coffees, refined antipasti and high-end culinary creations form an experience that connects the traveller to the culinary soul of each region.

Here, cuisine is not just pleasure: it is culture, memory and place. Each bite reflects the land the train has just crossed, making gastronomy a natural extension of the journey.

The dining car: a stage of elegance and design

The Dining Car is a space designed to delight all the senses. Its eclectic décor, with geometric forms, lacquered walls in soft nature-inspired hues and warm, enveloping lighting, creates the perfect setting for refined lunches and elegant dinners.

Whether for a light lunch or a sophisticated dinner, the dining car transforms every meal into a moment of pleasure and style.

The art of breakfast

Each morning begins with a ritual inspired by the golden age of La Dolce Vita. In a setting of fine linens and delicate china, guests enjoy a homemade Italian breakfast: freshly squeezed juices, Sicilian pastries, artisanal jams and elegant Italian coffee, alongside a carefully curated selection of international sweet and savoury options.

A gentle, refined and deeply Italian awakening.

The ritual of Italian Aperitivo

As the afternoon fades, the journey enters its most social and seductive moment: Aperitivo. In the Lounge Bar, with its luminous lacquered ceiling and elegant furnishings in beige, ivory and camel tones, guests gather to enjoy an exquisite antipasti buffet accompanied by signature cocktails and a curated selection of Italian wines.

It is a suspended moment between day and night, where flavour, conversation and landscape blend into an atmosphere of relaxed and sophisticated pleasure.

Itineraries of La Dolce Vita Orient Express: discover Italy from a privileged perspective

The itineraries of La Dolce Vita Orient Express are designed to reveal Italy from its most intimate and spectacular side. It is not about going from one city to another: it is about crossing the country as the great travellers of another era once did, with time, style and a perspective impossible from road or air.

The train connects some of Italy’s most beautiful regions, travelling through historic cities, rural landscapes, vineyards, luminous coastlines and villages frozen in time. Each route has been conceived as a composition, where culture, nature and rhythm are balanced to create an experience that is as deeply felt as it is seen.

Frequently Asked Questions about La Dolce Vita Orient Express

Frequently Asked Questions about La Dolce Vita Orient Express

What exactly is La Dolce Vita Orient Express?

It is the new Italian luxury train of the Orient Express brand, designed to reinterpret the art of travel with a contemporary approach: designer interiors, refined service, high-level gastronomy and a slow, sensory and elegant rhythm of travel.

Why is this train different from other luxury trains?

Because it is not a historic restoration: it is a modern creation with Italian DNA, conceived to feel like an icon. Its concept is based on the design signed by Dimorestudio, the onboard rituals, the transformation of the atmosphere throughout the day and a way of travelling that privileges emotion and style.

What kind of experience do you have on board?

A choreographed experience. There are moments of calm, of conviviality and of celebration: lounge, live music, the aperitivo ritual and the nocturnal “Great Transformation” that turns the train into an intimate, cinematic setting. It is a journey lived as a story, not as a simple trip.

What does the booking include?

It depends on the itinerary and the date. In general it includes accommodation in a cabin or suite, onboard service, access to the common areas and the gastronomic experience according to the route. Your Teovian quotation will clearly detail everything that is included and any additional services.

How do I choose between Deluxe Cabin, Suite and La Dolce Vita Suite?

  • Deluxe: ideal to experience La Dolce Vita with design, comfort and efficiency, with a private bathroom and a chic format.
  • Suite: recommended if you want more space and a living area to share during the day.
  • La Dolce Vita Suite: for those seeking the most exclusive option, with a large private residence, art, exceptional materials and ultra-personalised service.

Teovian guides you according to your travel style, expectations and desired level of privacy.

Is gastronomy included and what level is it?

The gastronomic experience is one of the pillars of the train. It is led by three-Michelin-star chef Heinz Beck and includes Italian rituals such as the artisanal breakfast, aperitivo and high-level meals according to the itinerary. Exact details are confirmed in your Teovian proposal.

How does boarding and the pre-departure experience work?

There is a “before the train” universe with lounge and station assistance, where luggage, preferences and journey preparation are handled. Depending on the itinerary, there may also be direct platform boarding. Teovian will indicate the exact process in your confirmation.

Are there experiences outside the train?

Yes. Depending on the itinerary, La Dolce Vita Orient Express offers exclusive off-train experiences designed to deepen your connection with local culture at the same level of elegance as the onboard journey. Teovian advises you and takes care of reserving the best options so everything fits perfectly with your route and schedule.

What kind of clothing is recommended?

During the day and for excursions outside the train, elegant but comfortable clothing is recommended. Italy is meant to be walked: stone streets, historic stairways and uneven pavements are part of the charm, so comfortable shoes and a chic–casual style are essential.

In the afternoon and evening, especially during aperitivo and dinner, the atmosphere becomes more sophisticated. Elegant, well-considered attire is advised, in keeping with the spirit of La Dolce Vita. Teovian will guide you according to your itinerary and the season.

When is the best time to book?

As early as possible. Availability is naturally limited and the best cabins and suites sell out first. Most travellers book one year in advance — and in many cases even earlier — to secure availability, choose the ideal category and access the best conditions.

Why book with Teovian?

Because we are specialists in luxury trains and know this product in depth. Thanks to our relationships with the operators, we can offer the best available fares and conditions. We handle 100% of your journey: train, flights, hotels, private transfers and bespoke experiences. You decide how you want to live Italy; Teovian makes it perfect.

"La Dolce Vita" Suite

La Dolce Vita Suite – The Ultimate Italian Residence on Rails

The La Dolce Vita Suite is not simply the most exclusive accommodation on board, it is a private world in motion, where Italian elegance, art and slow travel merge into a single, unforgettable experience.

Spanning an extraordinary 30 m², this suite is designed as a true suspended residence, welcoming up to three guests in a space where time softens, luxury becomes tactile, and every detail is curated with intention. This is where the spirit of la dolce vita is not observed, it is lived.

A Four-Space Private Residence

The suite unfolds into four beautifully integrated areas, each with its own purpose and personality: a bright living lounge with seating and dining space, a bedroom featuring a private en-suite bathtub, a main bathroom with double sinks and exquisite polychrome marbles, and a walk-in wardrobe designed for effortless elegance.

Thanks to its dual-aspect panoramic windows, the Italian landscape becomes a living artwork, constantly shifting as vineyards, coastlines and historic towns glide past.

Italian Design, Material Poetry

Every surface inside the suite tells a story of Italian craftsmanship and aesthetic mastery.

The floors alternate between the softness of wool carpet and the precious elegance of Venetian terrazzo, a mosaic of warm and dark marbles that catch the light with subtle brilliance. Walls are wrapped in Alcantara and lacquered finishes, enhanced by antiqued mirrors and brass details, creating a warm, intimate and almost theatrical atmosphere.

Here, luxury is not displayed, it is felt. Every texture invites touch. Every material invites presence.

Art, Light and Intimacy

Specially commissioned silk crêpe artworks by artist Marta Benet evoke abstract Italian landscapes and the poetic geometry of Carlo Scarpa, transforming the suite into both a living space and a gallery in motion.

Custom-designed furnishings and seating interact with elegant glass and brass lighting, casting a soft, golden glow across the space. Carefully chosen treasures: Murano glass vases, books and decorative objects create a feeling of intimacy and quiet luxury.

The sleeping area remains deliberately serene, centered around its private bathtub, while the main bathroom becomes a statement of Italian material beauty, featuring travertine, Portoro and polychrome marbles that blend into a harmonious symphony of stone, light and water.

A Service Designed Only for You

Guests of the La Dolce Vita Suite enjoy a level of service as rare as the suite itself.

On board, a personal Suite Conductor becomes your private host, discreetly anticipating your preferences and orchestrating every aspect of your stay.

Private luxury transfers to and from the train ensure a seamless and elegant arrival and departure.

Upon entering the suite, you are welcomed with a signature cocktail, created exclusively for La Dolce Vita and inspired by the great classics of Italian cinema, a first sip of the story you are about to live.

A bespoke gastronomic journey, created by three-Michelin-starred Chef Heinz Beck, accompanies your stay, with the possibility of dining privately in your suite. When possible, the chef himself presents the menu, turning dinner into a moment of theatre and connection.
